NB Student Carol Service at Christchurch Clifton - 7th December 5.30 and 8.00pm.
Bristol has a vibrant music scene and hence is home to many pubs and clubs which offer live music on a regular basis. For an overview of upcoming concerts check out the last.fm event calendar.
The Bristol Carling Academy in Frogmore Street (just off College Green) houses club nights in several rooms and concerts with the latest indie and mainstream rock bands. Find out about their different nights and upcoming shows at www.bristolacademy.co.uk.
Probably unique in the whole UK is the Thekla, MS Thekla Social to be precise – the one and only music boat. On board there are fine Indie and Electronic dance nights and gigs, two bars and a kitchen on two floors; on deck tables and an open air smoking area are provided. You can find the Thekla right around the corner of the Arnolfini and Queen Square at the East Mud Dock. Click here for their recent events.
The huge Students' Union has more to offer than the Fresher's Fair and all kind of sports. It also houses the so called Anson Rooms with enough room for a big audience. Learn about the fine selection of acts and student nights at their website.
Far smaller, gigs at The Lousiana are always a winner for their special and personal pub atmosphere. Many artists play here on their first tour – and return to the Thekla or CA when they hit the charts a few months later. Come to the Bathhurst Terrace to discover the next big thing before everybody else has seen them on TV.
Slightly bigger and situated right in the middle of Park Street (well, not that middle..), The Cooler presents some nice rather unknown bands. Check out www.clubcooler.com for further details.Occasional live music can also be found at the following venues:
Trinity Centre (Trinity Rd, BS2) a rebuild church which hosts a variet of events.
Fleece & Furkin (12 St Thomas Street, BS1, Website) pub atmosphere.
St. George's () church which sometimes stages nice songwriters.
Colston Hall () for more classical and really famous artists.
Mr. Wulfs (33 St Stephens Street, BS1) mostly local bands and an amazing noodle kitchen.
Start the Bus (7-9 Baldwin St, BS1) new indie scene café.
Coronation Tap (Sion Place, BS8) legendary cider pub near the Suspension Bridge.
Mbargo (at the Clifton Triangle) cool live music on Sundays.
The Cube (, Website) actually a independent cinema with some good gigs.
The Grapes – Clifton Venue with live Irish music on Mondays and Thursdays.
The Coronation Tap – see our events for all music here. (near the Grapes and better known for its cider – be warned).
As you can see, Bristol is the paradise for all music lovers. For those who prefer electronic sounds (which is actually the original Bristol sound) or charts music over smashing guitars, there are also tons of club nights at the above mentioned Thekla and Carling Academy and at the following locations:
Clockwork in Stokes Croft is great for their guest DJ performances
Oceania at the Millenium Square
Lizzard Lounge at the Triangle
Easy Tiger on Park Street (focused on 90s dance music)
The range of comfy pubs and bars is almost uncountable. You'll discover plenty during your first nights out or Pub Crawls on Whiteladies Road – and can't miss the legendary Jason Donervan-chips stand outside of Habitat for really really late night snacks.
