BLACK BOX COLLECTION
 
 
Bristol operates a FREE weekly black box collection system for recycling. To find out when your collection is please click here.
 
Put in black box
Food and drinks cans (please remove lids and rinse)
Newspapers and magazines (including catalogues and junkmail)
Yellow pages and telephone directories
Glass bottles and jars (rinse out and place the lids with your cans)
Clothes, blankets and material (put these out on a dry day in a plastic bag, rags will not be accepted)
Pair of shoes (tie shoes together)
Aluminium foil and containers
Household batteries, including rechargeable (keep together in a small tied bag)
Spectacles
Aerosol cans (please empty and remove lids)
 
Put next to black box
Engine oil (in a secure container)
Car batteries
 
Sorry, no …
Broken glass
Window glass
Drinking glasses
Pyrex glass
Household rubbish
Plastic
Foil Crisp Packets
Cooking oil
 
 
 
FOOD WASTE

CARDBOARD
 
 
Bristol operates a FREE weekly collection system for cardboard. To find out when your collection is please click here.
 
Cardboard should be placed next to your black box (not in it!).
 
Any type of cardboard will be collected, but ensure polystyrene & plastic packaging is removed and sticky tape and plastic labels are taken off where possible.
 
Put small pieces of cardboard in larger boxes and flatten where possible.
 
NO waxed drinks cartons (Tetra-Paks) as these are made up of other materials mixed with cardboard which cannot be composted.
 
GARDEN WASTE

THIS IS NOT FREE!
 
You have to either:
 
Buy a green wheelie bin from the Council and sign up for a year of weekly garden waste collections for a total of £50 (£21 for the bin and £29 for the collection service). This is reduced by 50% for some benefit claimants
 
or
 
Buy a 75 litre garden waste sack for £1. This price includes delivery and then collection from the kerbside on your normal collection day.
